The Best Things In The World

I found this on Lauren Conrad's new blog (which I highly recommend you check out). This list is a great way of making one realize that it's the little things in life that are perhaps the best. I really love singing in the car. It's the only moment that I'm convinced that just maybe I can sing. I really can't sing... After I finish this post, I am going to get up and start preparing for a girls night in. There will be lots of sangria, Mexican food, carrot cake cupcakes, and laughter. The little things... Can't wait.

Happy weekend.

Serenity

When I first saw this amazing space, I imagined taking a hot bath at the end of a long day at work, wine in hand. I would only have one cohesive thought, which would be to make a note to call designer Liz Williams and thank her, yet again, for creating this serene little piece of heaven for me. Sage green is one of my favorite colors (as evidenced by my blog), so this bathroom is extra special to me. The tile work in the shower is quite beautiful. I certainly wouldn't feel like I was slighted if time only allowed for a shower. The overall feel of the room is traditional, but the marble chevron floors adds a modern edge and a little excitement. Sigh... I wish I could call Liz.

For The Fall: Clogs

I'm still working on my list of fashion items for the fall. Making a list gives me something to look forward to in the midst of this stifling weather. I'm so ready for fall... The first items on my list were some fabulous bags. You can see that post here. Next up: shoes.

I got my very first pair of clogs when I was in high school (15+ years ago). They were thrifted and I wore them until they fell apart. They seemed to be on the outs for a while, but have been "in" for the last few years and I'm thrilled. I like to wear them with tights or jeans with a big chunky, warm sweater. I'll be getting a new pair for the fall- for sure.

Is your mouth watering yet? Mine certainly is. I'm going to make these- pronto. I heart A Cup of Jo for the introduction...

Details

My favorite part of any design TV show is the part where they accessorize the space. Adding accessories to a space is like adding the perfect jewelry to a cute outfit- one is really not complete without the other. These photos are from Rue magazine's Details gallery, one of my favorite sites. I love looking at all of the "interior jewelry" and how it is placed.

Speaking of Rue, the new issue is out later today! I can't wait to curl up with it later this week...

My Weekend: Brotherly Love

Hi friends! How was your weekend? My weekend started off with a nasty migraine. Do any of you suffer from migraines? Do tell.

Thankfully the migraine subsided before my brother arrived in town. He participated in a fencing competition here on Saturday. Fencing is an amazing sport to watch and I think that it is one of the most underrated sports out there. He placed in the top 15 and I am extremely proud of him. We ended the weekend this morning at Highland Bakery where we indulged in ricotta pancakes and the most delectable french toast I have ever had. They had cases full of cupcakes and lots of other sweet stuff which I took a few snapshots of and walked on. Hardest part of my weekend... :)

Love & Happiness

Hydrangeas make me really happy. These were on sale at Whole Paycheck (i.e. Whole Foods), so I swiped them up. They got me through the week. There is nothing like fresh flowers.

Wishing you a weekend full of love and happiness...

Diptyque Everywhere

So I have seen these diptyque candles everywhere in the blogs and mags and they have peeked my interest! Some of you may be thinking, "Gosh, where in the world has she been??" I know they aren't new by any means, but I suddenly want to know more about them. The standard sized candles are $60, so they must smell spectacular...

The are really cute, too so I see why people use them as accessories...

Do you have a diptyque candle? If so, what fragrance do you like? Are they worth the cost?? Fill me in!

Easy Marinara Sauce

Italian food is my second favorite food (Mexican is my true weakness). It's tasty and mostly really easy to make. Up until a year ago, I would make pasta using sauce out of the jar. There is nothing wrong with that, but there is something better and most importantly, fresher. I ran across this recipe by David Rocco and jars of marinara sauce in my pantry have since been non-existent. His is a "five minute" recipe, but I have found that it tastes better if it simmers a little longer. Here is what you need and what to do...

4 Tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
28 oz can of peeled whole tomatoes (pureed) or crushed tomatoes (preferably San Marzano)
1 medium onion- finely chopped
2 garlic cloves- finely chopped
1 Tablespoon of red pepper flakes- divided ( I like it hot!!)
Handfull of fresh basil- chopped or torn
Salt to taste

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil (on medium heat) and add 1/2 of the red pepper flakes, the garlic and the onions. Stir occasionally to prevent the garlic from burning. Cook for about 5-6 minutes until the onions are translucent and a little soft. Add the tomatoes and the rest of the red pepper flakes, then simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the basil and simmer for another 5 minutes. I usually add the basil when I start cooking the pasta. Add a healthy serving of the sauce to the cooked pasta (whole wheat for me) and top it off with more basil and freshly grated parmesan cheese. A side of wine and crusty bread would be good, too.

The sauce freezes beautifully, so freeze the leftovers, if any... :)

Modern + Country: Milk & Honey Home

Hi friends! I hope you had a great weekend. Well grab a cup of coffee, tea, or wine and sit back and relax because you are in for quite a treat. Anisa of the beautiful blog Milk & Honey Home recently posted pictures of the first floor of her traditional townhouse that she and her husband are currently renting. They changed all of the lighting and made it their own. I just adore it...

Gorgeous right?!! So cozy! To me, it's like Pottery Barn catalog that has come to life. And I truly heart Pottery Barn. Those Tolix chairs at the dining room table and several other things actually did come from PB. Aren't those chairs perfect with the wicker chairs?? For a list of sources AND to see pictures of the upstairs, grab another drink and head over to Milk & Honey Home!!

For The Fall...

Call me crazy, but I'm kinda already looking forward to fall. It's my favorite season of the year. The air is just crisper and fresher and I like that. I like love fall and winter fashion, too. I'm already scoping out some items for this upcoming season. These Zara bags are on my list...

I adore this messenger bag. I could see this draped over a black chunky sweater paired with dark skinny jeans and black or camel riding boots.

Do you have a yellow bag and wear it in the fall? I don't, but I'm thinking about venturing out a little- starting with this canvas bag...

It comes with this cute little clutch, too...

Cute right? The prices are cute, too. The messenger bag is $69.99 and the yellow bag is a whopping $29.99!! Unfortunately, these are only available in stores. They don't sell anything online. They just show all of the pretty things they offer online. Wonder why??

So am I the only one already thinking about fall?

Fashion and other random things been on my mind lately, hence all of the posts related to fashion and random things. I still love interior design! I am sharing a gorgeous home with you on Monday that I promise you won't want to miss! I hope you have a great weekend!
