Chocolate Cherry Crisp

Fresh cherries will be out of season soon, so I thought I would pass this gorgeousness along...

Heavenly... Todd and Diane of White On Rice Couple are amazing. You can find the recipe on their blog. Do some browsing while you are there. A word of caution: Your mouth might water... :)

Flush Mounts & A Giveaway

Over the weekend, I finally had a chance to crack open the latest issue of BH&G. Inside, I found this beauty...

via
I LOVE everything about this kitchen from the floors to the ceiling. The lighting is what really caught my attention. I rarely see flush mount lighting that I REALLY love- especially in a kitchen. I adore antique brass flush mount lighting in this space. It looks similar to this...

It's simple and the antique brass adds the perfect touch of class. It beautifully compliments the hardware and adds a splash of warmth as well.

The Hicks pendant light over the sink is like the cherry on top...

I have seen this pendant light a million times on blogs and in mags and I never get tired of looking at it. Gorg.

Now I have to tell you something. Both of these fixtures are sold by Visual Comfort Lighting. You wanna know something else? The incredibly talented Melissa of Veranda Interiors is giving away a $200 credit towards the purchase of any Visual Comfort fixture. So head on over to her blog and sign up! Oh and be sure to check out her photos of her GORGEOUS new home while you are there!

Happy Monday!

Addicted To Trenches

I was organizing my coat closet the other day and I found five trench coats. Ok, maybe there were more. I'm kind of embarrassed to say how many... I promise you they are all different in some way. They are just so classy and sassy and I love em'! Yep, I'll be buying another one for the fall. Can't help it. Those bags look appetizing, too, don't they?

ABC's of Me

I love when simple things make me happy. My new $6 Anthro monogrammed mug is the perfect example. I'm trying to decide if I am going to drink out of it or use it as a pen holder in my new office that I am moving into this week!

I'm sharing some other things I love and some little facts about me today over at Marianne's beautiful blog, Style For Living. I am participating in her fun ABC's of Me series, so stop by!

Rosemary & Peach Mojito

I have GOT to make this before peach season is over. I live in Georgia, so there are no excuses... The rosemary is an interesting twist...

Rosemary & Peach Mojito

1 small peach (roughly chopped)
2 ounces white rum
1 ounce Rosemary Simple Syrup (recipe here)
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary
Club soda

In a glass, muddle the peach, Rosemary Simple Syrup, lime juice and rosemary. Add rum and stir. Fill glass with crushed ice and top off with club soda. This recipe makes one. That is probably a good thing. :)

Pretty Stuff

Hello loves... How was your weekend? Mines was relaxing as planned. My body has been giving me subtle hints lately that I need to relax more and stress less. So I trashed my weekend to-do list that I made last week and decided to take it just one day at a time over the weekend. I got the important things done and took the time to give myself a pedicure, cook, nap and simply breathe. The unimportant things will just have to wait.

Oh... I also spent some time browsing Pretty Stuff, a beautiful tumblr site. I found these photos and was so smitten by the antiques. Lovely stuff...

Warm

Yes, I know it's August. Yes, I know it's a trillion degrees outside in most places. But have I mentioned that I am ready for fall?? Oh right, I mentioned it here and here. These warm and rustic spaces are incredibly beautiful and just make me more excited about cooler temps. My blankets, sweaters and hot tea are awaiting me! And I am already having moments when I wish I could put my Christmas tree up. Am I the only one?

Honey Vanilla Pound Cake

If you are from the south, then pound cake was or might still be a weekly staple for you. My grandmother made it all the time when I was a child. I will openly admit here- I have never really liked it. I just always thought it was flavorless!

Well a few weeks ago, I saw Ina Garten make this Honey Vanilla Pound Cake on her show. I love honey and vanilla- well the smell of it is just amazing. It also has a bit of lemon zest. All of that = great flavor, so I thought I would give this recipe a whirl. Here is what you need and what to do:

2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temp
1 1/4 cups of sugar
4 eggs, at room temp
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2-3 teaspoons grated lemon zest (3 = more flavor)
2 cups sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Use the wrappers of the butter to grease the bottom of the loaf pan. Line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper, then grease and flour the entire pan.

Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar on medium speed for 4 minutes. This is a critical stage, so cream them the entire 4 minutes. While those are creaming, add the eggs, vanilla, lemon zest, and vanilla into a glass measuring cup. Do not mix them! With the mixer on low, add egg mixture, one egg at a time. Scrape down the bowl after each egg.

Sift the flour, salt and baking powder. Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture slowly until just combined. Be super careful not to overmix the batter. Do a final mix of the batter with a rubber spatula, pour it into the loaf pan and smooth the top.

Now baking time. This is important. The recipe says the cake should be done in 50-60 minutes. Not true according to my oven. It took about 1 hr and 10 minutes. I recommend checking the cake with a toothpick at 50 minutes and every 5 minutes after that until the toothpick comes out clean. My point here is that it is REALLY easy to overcook this cake.

This is what it should look like after it comes out of the oven. Use oven mitts to remove it from the pan and onto a cooling rack.

Once it has cooled a bit, slice it and drizzle it with honey. A side of ice cream might be twice as nice...

Guest Post: Maxwell St. James

Hi there! I'm Maxwell (aka Tiffany's child). That's me sitting in my chair- well really my mom's chair that she paid a lot of money for and has never really sat in. I'm not into design like mom is, so a chair is a chair to me and I like this one. Anyway, my mom had a super busy weekend and asked that I fill in for her today. I hope you don't think it's cheesy that I'm filling in for her. She thought it was cheesy, but I told her it wasn't. So blame me if you think this is crazy...

So how was your weekend? My weekend was great. I spent most of my weekend doing this...

I slept most of the weekend. I got it like that... Don't you wish you had my life?

Other than sleeping, I followed my mom around the house while she changed like 100 knobs on all the cabinets and the drawers in this house. I think she mentioned something about the knob situation here. I was exhausted from following her around, so I resorted back to my chair while she ran around house like a crazy woman with a screwdriver...

She changed her mind about the knobs a few 1000 times.  She said she would get back to you later about what she decided.

Well like I said, I sleep a lot and this blogging thing is exhausting! I even fell asleep on the job...

But don't tell mom...

She said she would be back tomorrow with a delicious pound cake recipe. I assume it tastes good, but I don't eat sweets so I really don't know how true that is. :)

I'm off to my chair, so I hope ya'll have a good day!

Cabinet Jewels

Blogs are amazing... You know why? Because before I started blogging, I had no idea how to change the knobs on my cabinets. Quite frankly, I never had an issue with the knobs that came with my house. Now I find myself surfing blogs and having thoughts that range from changing knobs to wanting to trash all of my decor and start all over again. Can you relate?

Anyway, I can't afford to trash all of my decor, so I'm changing the knobs on the cabinets in my master bathroom. I bought these vintage-looking knobs at World Market. Don't you love a store where you can buy knobs and a great bottle of wine, too?

Thanks to blogs, I sometimes find myself browsing Home Depot like it's a Banana Republic. I found these knobs while browsing in Home Depot. They will adorn my kitchen cabinets and drawers...

This is going to be my little weekend project. I can't wait! One never could have told me years ago that I would be excited about changing the knobs on my cabinets. I heart blogging.

Great Advice

Hi friends... I wasn't feeling so great last night, so I didn't get around to editing my photos and copy for the recipe I planned to share today. Hopefully I can post it later this week or next. In the meantime, I thought I would share a great piece of advice that I found...

And don't let anyone try to drown you on the way out!

Sorry, I just had to add my two cents...

An Organized Life: Beau Lifestyle

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! Well I am going to get this week off to a great start with something beautiful and something organized! Chantal of Beau Lifestyle recently shared pics of her gorgeous closet and I just have to share it with you. She is a lover of vintage jewelry and has found some creative ways to display it and keep it organized. It's like she has created her own little jewelry store...

Isn't it the worst when you are all dressed and ready to go- then you go for the perfect necklace only to find that it's tangled up with several other necklaces? This DIY frame would certainly solve that problem...

LOVE! I thought my jewelry was organized but apparently not!

And if you think her closet is amazing, you should see the rest of her home! Click here to see it! While you are checking out her place, I'll be untangling some of my necklaces...
