Brace yourself! I've got a gooey, chocolate-y, delicious treat to share with you today. All you need is a few basic ingredients that I'm sure most of you already have in your pantry, a coffee mug, a microwave and about 60 seconds of patience while it cooks...
Here is what you need... Oh and this makes 1 cake.
4 tablespoons of flour
4 tablespoons of sugar
3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons of skim milk- yep skim milk
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and pour the batter into a normal-sized coffee mug.
Now, here is where it gets tricky... The consistency of the cake should be cakey AND gooey. To get this consistency, it will take anywhere from 50 seconds to 1 minute and 15 seconds. It all depends on your microwave! I made it in two different microwaves over the weekend. It cooked in 50 seconds in my parents microwave. It cooked in 60 seconds in my microwave. My advice is to start with 50 seconds, then check the consistency. If it is too gooey for your taste, then cook it another 10 seconds.
Also, be sure to have your spoon and a side of ice cream and/or whipped cream ready to go as soon as it's done! It continues to cook in the mug after it's done, so it tends to get dry as it sits. No good...
This is so tasty and is perfect if you want a quick, small dessert on a busy weeknight. Let me know if you make it!

ReplyDeleteYum! We rarely have chocolate in our house due to Kate, but that looks so delicious!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recap! Couldn't remember how to make this deliciousness!
ReplyDeleteI made this today and it was really good. But much more filling than I expected. I'm sure I'll try it again!
ReplyDeleteOh thank goodness you posted this!!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing--I will definitely be testing this out!
ReplyDeleteOh Lord help us! I guess the only way I could take some pics is knowing that in 60 seconds I could have another one ready ;)
ReplyDeletewhen you say cocoa powder...do you mean like hot chocolate mix?
ReplyDelete@BloggyFroggy - I haven't tried it with hot chocolate mix, so I'm not sure if that would work. Cocoa powder is sold separately and can be found on the baking isle in the grocery store. Hope that helps!
ReplyDelete@Tiffany- Thank you that actually helps a lot, I will be sure to pick some cocoa powder up at the store and I will be trying this:) Also, thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteso easy and it looks delish!!
ReplyDeleteWow! what a simple time saving snack! It reminds me of the brownies that I used to make from the TV dinners when I was a kid. I'll have to try this one out!
ReplyDeleteI got this from 24/7 MOMS website....thanks for sharing! I am going to make this now!!
ReplyDeleteYum! This is perfect. I have had a serious chocolate craving today and this is just what I need. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI made it last night. It was so simple and very delicious. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCould this be done in a regular oven? :)
ReplyDelete@Ana That is a good question! I am sure it can be done in the oven, but I am not sure how long it will take to cook or if it will taste the same. You might want to test it by baking it as a cupcake. Watch it as it cooks in the oven so you can test the timing.
ReplyDeleteTiffany this looks amazing!! It was so good to meet you Friday night at the dinner. I will be bookmarking this for sure :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! This looks divine! I can't wait to go home and try it out! xx
ReplyDeleteoh, this sounds really nice, wanted to try it now but only have olive oil and we have public holiday in germany today, hmm, have to buy some neutral oil tomorrow ;-), best regards from sabine
ReplyDeleteYummy! I made this last night for the first time. Mine was in for about 1 min. 10 sec., although, next time I'll probably put in in for longer to have more cake texture. It was gooooood, and easy to make though! Love it. :)
ReplyDeleteJust made it! It was delicious! (Total time for prep, cook, and clean up was about 4 minutes. Genius!)
ReplyDeleteMy time was about 1 minute 5 seconds.
Shut the front door! Simple & amazing.. I'll have to try this! It looks delicious!
ReplyDeletewhat happens if you use non skim milk?(2%)
ReplyDelete@yoshikitten - I haven't tried it! But I think it would still be fine - maybe a little more moist. If the cake is too moist once it cooks, use less milk the next time. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteI tried it about an hour ago. DELICIOUS! however, I used 1% milk, and I had to cook it about 1 min 20 seconds, so I don't know if the milk had anything to do with that or just my microwave. Anyway, it was still tasty :) thanks for sharing! it's one of my new favorites!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing and delicious! I need to try this stat..thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is soooo dangerous! I'm thinking of adding some instant espresso powder next time? or maybe some mint extract? maybe some marshmellows for a smores cake. The possibilities are endless :)
ReplyDeleteO.M.G! All I have to pick up today is the coco and I am sooo making this!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just made this. I have to say it works! But it is way to sweet for me.
ReplyDeleteI have a very weak microwave and it took about 90 secondes to get to the right consistency.
Made this today! IT WAS FABULOUS! SUCH A HIT! THANK YOUU!!!! YUM
ReplyDeleteFinally got around to making this. It was really good, but very rich! (Not that it was a problem or anything!)
ReplyDeleteThe only issue I had was I have large thick ceramic mugs and the top cooked just right but the bottom was all goo.
My work around for this was put half in one cup and half in another so my sweetheart and I could share a yummy desert.
Thanks for the recipe Tiffany. I made it today and i love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you all love the recipe!!!
ReplyDeleteI tried it and absolutely LOVED it, I've never seen so much interest in one cup in my life, my whole family seemed to appear from out of nowhere!!! AMAZING!!!!!!! I cooked for 90 seconds and it was just right, sticky but spongy, could do 100 seconds depending on you'r preferences. Either way, I think it's genius!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei,VE MADE THIS MANY A TIME B4, NONE AS SUCCESSFUL AS THIS TIME, OH MY GOODNESS!!
ReplyDeleteI USED CREAM IN PLACE OF MILK, AND MY COCOA POWDER IS VERY CHOCOLATEY. WINNER!!!
THANK YOU!! This was AMAZING and hit the spot. Soooo easy, fast and excellent results!!!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great! I cooked it for 90 seconds and it was perfect! Love this!
