SNEAK PEEK: MASTER BEDROOM MAKEOVER

I hope you had a great weekend!! The weather here was AMAZING - and it was the weather that pretty much inspired this post. The lighting in my new, but very unfinished bedroom, was really beautiful this weekend. So I took some photos of it that I told myself I would share with you later - later like after I shared a "before" post (you can see the before here in this post from 2010!) and maybe another post that showed you a layout of the pieces I was considering for the space. But in the interest of time (and the pretty light this weekend), I thought I would just cut to the chase and share a few sneak peeks with you now so you wouldn't have to possibly wait ten years for an update...

As you can see, I'm going for a really serene look. I work hard, so I want to relax in a really calm and soft environment. Neutrals are my favorite, so I'm using whites, creams, and hints of gold. The process has been slow due to my work schedule, my insane indecisiveness, waiting for sales to hit (everything here has been purchased ON SALE!), waiting for orders to come in, and coordination with my contractor (because hanging curtain rods the right way is just not my thing). I've worked hard and saved for a long time for this space, so I'm learning that taking my time to get everything right is best. I still have a few things left to do. The drapes need to be trimmed (maybe?) and steamed. I'm still looking for nightstands and accessories - the things that will add subtle hints of color to the space. I also need new bedside lighting. And I still have yet to hang one single picture on the walls. But I'll get there one day - and when I do, I'll certainly share everything with you! In the meantime, here are a few details... :)

THREE LITTLE THINGS I LOVE...

{This weeks flowers that perfectly compliment my new bed and bedding... }

I hope you had a great weekend! My weekend was quite good. My new bed arrived and I couldn't be any happier with it. There is a little peek of it above. It makes me feel so grown up... Of course the space isn't finished yet, but I will be sure to show it to you when it is. I wish I could do a one hour install like they do on HGTV, but things don't quite happen like that in real life... I topped off the weekend with a really good organic burger, amazing ice cream from here, a nap, and a little work during Sunday afternoon storms. Good times... I hope you have a wonderful week. I'll be back here tomorrow with a really good and quick recipe!

 {This simple knot necklace that has been in heavy rotation lately... }

{This passage in Oprah's new book, "What I Know For Sure." This is one of those books where I want to highlight every other sentence. It's full of so much insightful inspiration. I highly recommend it...} Oh and that magnifying glass is a new little accessory in my home office that I'm also loving...

HOW I'M UPDATING MY BUILDER-GRADE MASTER BATHROOM...

Pottery Barn Crystal Sconce | Restoration Hardware Mirror (18 x 36) | Gallery Wall $10 Art | Moen Sink Fixture | Williams Sonoma Towels | Moen Tub Fixture | Serena & Lily Stool | Restoration Hardware Round Glass Knobs

This really excites me people... I have been wanting to update my master bedroom and bathroom for years now and it is finally happening!! I'm starting with my builder-grade bathroom. While I would love to replace everything from floor to ceiling, I'm choosing to take the easier and cheaper route. I'm creating what I call a "mini-custom look" by customizing the space with things that are easy to switch out. Since I'm not doing a complete overhaul, I wanted to buy the nicest things I could afford or buy without hyperventilating. I will say that most of these things were purchased on sale, so I'm doing good!

So I'm keeping the big stuff like the floors, the double-sink vanity, the tub and the shower. But I am replacing the big builder sheet mirror over my current vanity with two individual mirrors and upgrading the lighting over each mirror. Lighting is such an easy way to zhush up a space, so I'm quite excited about those crystal sconces! I'm dressing up the vanity with a new set of sink fixtures and cabinet knobs. The knobs match the lighting and I love that...

The backdrop of all of that will be walls painted in "White Dove" by Benjamin Moore. I chose that color for my bedroom as well. I think that is the universal white color and I now see why. It's a creamy white that has no yellow or peach undertones and isn't too white. That is exactly what I wanted. I'm going to dress up the walls with two custom framed prints from Sarah's Etsy shop. Her art is so simple and chic, which is sort of the theme of this space...

Oh and I'm also going to treat myself some real quality white towels - the kind that are so soft and fluffy that you just want to wrap yourself up in them and go to sleep. Perhaps I'm most excited about that... :)
