60 Second Chocolate Cake

Brace yourself! I've got a gooey, chocolate-y, delicious treat to share with you today. All you need is a few basic ingredients that I'm sure most of you already have in your pantry, a coffee mug, a microwave and about 60 seconds of patience while it cooks...
Here is what you need... Oh and this makes 1 cake.

4 tablespoons of flour
4 tablespoons of sugar
3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons of skim milk- yep skim milk
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder

Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and pour the batter into a normal-sized coffee mug.

Now, here is where it gets tricky... The consistency of the cake should be cakey AND gooey. To get this consistency, it will take anywhere from 50 seconds to 1 minute and 15 seconds. It all depends on your microwave! I made it in two different microwaves over the weekend. It cooked in 50 seconds in my parents microwave. It cooked in 60 seconds in my microwave. My advice is to start with 50 seconds, then check the consistency. If it is too gooey for your taste, then cook it another 10 seconds.

Also, be sure to have your spoon and a side of ice cream and/or whipped cream ready to go as soon as it's done! It continues to cook in the mug after it's done, so it tends to get dry as it sits. No good...

This is so tasty and is perfect if you want a quick, small dessert on a busy weeknight. Let me know if you make it!

  13. when you say cocoa powder...do you mean like hot chocolate mix?

  14. @BloggyFroggy - I haven't tried it with hot chocolate mix, so I'm not sure if that would work. Cocoa powder is sold separately and can be found on the baking isle in the grocery store. Hope that helps!

  20. Could this be done in a regular oven? :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Ana That is a good question! I am sure it can be done in the oven, but I am not sure how long it will take to cook or if it will taste the same. You might want to test it by baking it as a cupcake. Watch it as it cooks in the oven so you can test the timing.

  25. Yummy! I made this last night for the first time. Mine was in for about 1 min. 10 sec., although, next time I'll probably put in in for longer to have more cake texture. It was gooooood, and easy to make though! Love it. :)

  28. what happens if you use non skim milk?(2%)

    ReplyDelete
  29. @yoshikitten - I haven't tried it! But I think it would still be fine - maybe a little more moist. If the cake is too moist once it cooks, use less milk the next time. Hope this helps!

  30. I tried it about an hour ago. DELICIOUS! however, I used 1% milk, and I had to cook it about 1 min 20 seconds, so I don't know if the milk had anything to do with that or just my microwave. Anyway, it was still tasty :) thanks for sharing! it's one of my new favorites!

  32. Oh my goodness, this is soooo dangerous! I'm thinking of adding some instant espresso powder next time? or maybe some mint extract? maybe some marshmellows for a smores cake. The possibilities are endless :)

  34. I just made this. I have to say it works! But it is way to sweet for me.

I have a very weak microwave and it took about 90 secondes to get to the right consistency.

  36. Finally got around to making this. It was really good, but very rich! (Not that it was a problem or anything!)
The only issue I had was I have large thick ceramic mugs and the top cooked just right but the bottom was all goo.
My work around for this was put half in one cup and half in another so my sweetheart and I could share a yummy desert.

  39. I tried it and absolutely LOVED it, I've never seen so much interest in one cup in my life, my whole family seemed to appear from out of nowhere!!! AMAZING!!!!!!! I cooked for 90 seconds and it was just right, sticky but spongy, could do 100 seconds depending on you'r preferences. Either way, I think it's genius!!!!!!
